How to Get Bluetooth on Your Computer

Bluetooth is a wireless technology that allows the connection of various devices via high frequency radio signals. Many devices such as laptops, PDAs, and cell phones have in built Bluetooth capability. Older laptops do not this capability. The name Bluetooth is associated with cell phones and it is mostly used to connect a wireless headset to the mobile phone. However, it can easily be used with a computer. Read on further to learn how to get Bluetooth capability on your computer.

The first step is to determine whether your computer already has the Bluetooth capability. If your laptop is new, then there is a probability that, it already has operating Bluetooth capability. If you are not sure, you can refer to the manual provided by the manufacturer. If you already have the Bluetooth capability on your system, you can enable it in few seconds. If you own an older laptop or a desktop, then you can easily get Bluetooth on it by purchasing an inexpensive Bluetooth USB adapter and connecting it to your system. The Bluetooth USB adapter is small, inexpensive device which allows your system to search for any Bluetooth enabled devices in the close proximity. It is very much similar to wireless adapter. The Bluetooth USB adapter comes with installation disk that can help you install the required software for its functioning.

The next step is to complete the installation of the Bluetooth USB software on your system. Once you complete the installation, the software prompts to insert the Bluetooth device into the USB port in your system. Once done, the software also provides you the instructions to add a personal identification number (PIN) for your system's Bluetooth. After this step, you can pair your Bluetooth with any other Bluetooth compatible device. Ensure that both the Bluetooth devices are turned on and that the Bluetooth settings are enabled for visibility.

At times, the pairing process of the devices is automatic and other times, some settings might have to be modified on the other Bluetooth enabled device. The process of adding a Bluetooth enabled device to the list of Bluetooth paired devices on your system is quite simple. Open the control panel of your system and find the 'hardware and sounds' icon. Click on that icon and then select the tab 'Bluetooth devices' and then click on the add button. This enables your system to search for any Bluetooth compatible devices in the nearby vicinity. Once your system finds the Bluetooth enabled devices, you can select the desired device and add it. This finishes the pairing of the Bluetooth enabled device with your Bluetooth enabled system.

Once you test the Bluetooth functioning on your system, you can then easily transfer files between your system and various devices such as cell phones, digital cameras, etc. If your system is not Bluetooth enabled, now you can easily get Bluetooth for your system, by following the above mentioned steps.
